It was awesome getting to hang out and meet everyone at the GAC last week.  We have pulled out all the #GAC10 tweets from Twitter before the bird gets hungry and eats them all.

  • carladay: It was very hot. Like 12-15 hrs in sauna. Didn't think would be saved. Navy too far away. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Learned "Never trust a pirate." They got their somali leader back, but didn't exchange Captain back to crew. #gac10

  • carladay: Took one somali hostage. Only 3 pirates left on bridge w/capt and 3 others. Solution- go to rescuse boat Captain would go with them. #gac10

  • carladay: Wanted him to make ship go, but said that they broke ship. Said to make crew come up. Used 'word' that meant stay hidden. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Pirates realized it was )- ship and high fived each othet thinking big payment. Realized only 3 people on ship, and ship not going. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Somali pirates had no plan or training...their boat sunk. Forst captain to be captured since 1800s. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Pirates come aside ship and climb on board. Most of crew are under ship, doors locked (due to drill) #gac10

 

  • carladay: Pirates fire on ship, not military but merchant ship not used to avoiding bullets. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Call pirate line for help. They are 2 miles away, continue getting closer, shoot flares at pirates and hope will catch on fire. #gac10

 

  • carladay: 'somali pirate, somali pirate coming to get you' on radio night before. Saw pirate ship, changed direction, they changed direction #gac10

 

  • carladay: There was some grumbling about drill, but a few days later they were all appreciative of it #gac10

 

  • carladay: Error chain is the small things that go wrong that cause a big problem. Talked through drill. All got on board to improve. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Told crew ship was attacking. During test found that not everyone was aware of key words, doors were locked right etc. Small thingd #gac10

 

  • carladay: Thought security at port was lax, so had drill at 0900 in morning. Required drills are quarterly, but thought need it. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Didn't want her to wonder if that was reason for outcome. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Was there anything different about this trip than others? First time wife didn't walk him into airport...motivation to get home. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Basically like a CEO of the ship., but work 24/7 while on ship. #gac10

 

  • carladay: 1991 became a Captain. 90 days on ship then 90 days home (sometimes up to 6 months). Interesting home life. #gac10

 

  • carladay: Started driving a taxi out of high school. A passenger told him about being a merchant mariner. Brother joined then he did. #gac10

 

 

  • carladay: If your credit union is not participating in Project Zip Code it is a free way to help support credit union advocacy. #gac10

 

 

  • carladay: Project Zip Code- match members to congeessional districts. This shows the power of the votes. 73 million! #gac10

  • carladay: FASB has many formal and informal advisory groups. Very public discussions w/comment period, roundtables etc. #gac10
