Shotgun Marketing – I have to agree that many CUs & financial institutions for that matter, implement a “shotgun” marketing strategy. I would like to comment further on this topic, and bring attention to what I consider detrimental to many cu marketing initiatives - Reactive Marketing. So a credit union will see a competitor doing something really cool, and they will take the idea and implement it with a new design. Understandably this is a natural reaction, but it is entirely the wrong approach. These individuals would be much better off to analyze their own marketing practices and budgets. I truthfully like to call it “keeping up with the Jones” marketing. Reactive marketing is the easy, or lazy approach.
I agree that CUs should focus on their core competencies, because it will benefit their members and make it hard for competitors to compete with their institution. This all takes time, resources, competency and creativity. Which really goes back to CUWarrior’s blog post I Still Dig the Diggers...But We Dug this Hole
